In social life, society will never be separated from physical appearance — even to the point of being turned into competitions and various other contests. This reality of life must be faced and accepted going hand in hand. What’s worse is that there is a saying “As long as we have a beautiful face, everything else will be safe.” By all means, there is nothing wrong when we praise God’s creation when we see beauty that suits our preferences. People also widely say “Beauty is relative” depending on who sees whom. However, it seems quite shallow if someone’s judgment is only about their physical beauty.
Before discussing further beautifulness’, I will give a little disclaimer that if the context is to choose a life partner, we are indeed encouraged to choose someone to whom we are also physically attracted, even though this is not a factor that should be dominantly considered. Because there are many things we can explore about a person — basically humans are complex and unique. No human being is exactly the same without the slightest difference, even those born as identical twins still have certain differences. Slowly I realized that being able to run into more about someone’s uniqueness is a gift. For me, a person’s aura will radiate when they can be grateful for what God has created for them, then take care of it and continue to develop the best potential in themself which is not only physical.
Perhaps the readers of my writing are fed up when I relate to the experience of being physically bullied when I was a child. I think it was thanks to that incident that made me appreciate a process in life. The process of accepting things that are out of control, the process of forgiving those who may have made a mistake, and most importantly things are of giving someone more value to what is within them. One of my favorite surahs in the Qur’an; is Surah Yusuf. Despite many stories narrated about the handsomeness of the Prophet Yusuf. However, the Surah itself contains an emphasis on praising the morals of the Prophet Yusuf — praise that he was pious, someone who was very honest, someone who did good to others, someone who was devout, and so on. This is also in line with the words of the Prophet SAW, “Indeed Allah does not look at your appearance and your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.” — HR. Muslim.
To close this chapter, I want to emphasize that something beautiful from within will radiate until it looks beautiful on the outside. Those who look at other people from their personality will have a much more insightful thought because we can only see someone as deeply as we know ourselves. Just remember that we are born with the best version of ourselves, the rest depends on how we give value to it, whether positive or negative depending on our perspective in looking at every journey we have gone through. Those who are willing to see a person more than just their physical appearance will find many beautiful things that will add value to their life.
